Notepad - How to use Note Pad to Write a Letter

Notepad - Using Note Pad
Notepad is the basic word processor on all windows systems.
Notepad does not provide many fancy formatting options, but It is easy to use. Once you learn how to use Notepad, you will be able to use it on any other windows computer.  You can use it to make quick notes while you are online or offline, to dash a quick letter, or ? you'll find that Notepad is efficiently and fast!
TIP: Sometimes a program  accidentally deletes or times out before you are done,
but if you write your text into Notepad and then copy and paste into the body of your email message or online form you will not have to reconstruct your text from scratch.
You can also save the text to a file for later reference without going back online.

These are the steps we will follow:
1. Open - open the Notepad program.
2. Set    - set the printing options
3. Name and Save - name and save the text
4  Create - type your letter
5. Close - close the Notepad program

1. To open the Notepad: program
Click once on "Start" button (located at the lower left corner of your screen)
then click on "All Programs">click "Accessories,"> click "Notepad."

A blank Notepad window which looks like this will appear.

When you begin typing (later) -
Inside this "box"  is where the text of your letter will appear.

2. But beforeyou start typing, you must set the printing options: To set the printing options for a printed page, such as our letter:
Locate the "File Menu" under the blue bar at the top of the Notepad window.
"Click "File" >

The menu will expand, and the window will look like this:

Click on "Page Setup">
Next, another smaller window will appear.
In this window, set the  the "Size" which is  "Letter."and
If necessary, adjust the margins to 1 inch.

Make sure the orientation is "Portrait"
and then click on "OK."and  the small window will close.
3. Now you must name and  save the letter before you begin the text for this letter..
Click on the file menu (again) > click on "Save as" >  and name the text -
(for example Jane - Letter -  Jan 12, 2013. txt is now the name of our letter.

The .txt will automatically be added to your file name, and the text document will automatically be saved to a folder on your computer called "My Documents."
It will remain there until you delete it.
You can recall or "find"  it whenever you want (That's another lesson.)

For now, know that whatever you type into the Notepad window you have just set and saved will not be lost. - that you will not type away and either delete the text or save it where you cannot find it.

4. Create  your letter, using the keyboard to input the text.. (You can change the font in the Format menu, located second from the left on the File menu. But any other choices from this menus will affect all the text in this letter.)

5.To close the program, locate the last symbol in the upper right hand corner of the Notepad window; an "X.". Click on it and the program will close1

Good Job!

After completing this excercise - take a look at some other features of the File Menu (step 1.) , such as Format, Edit, and Help.
